“What ?”
Shocked, I hurried into the ward with him.
Inside, I found Melany and Brian standing in front of the bed. Both of them Looked very serious
“What’s going on, Melany?” I demanded anxiously.
“Carlos told me that you were able to make the antidote. Why haven’t you given it to Caleb?”
Melany looked at me gravely and explained, “Debra, Caleb isn’t doing so well, and he’s currently in a coma. The antidote is very potent, and we’re not sure what effect it might have on his organs. If we use it now while he’s unconscious, his body might fail to handle it, and there will be serious aftereffects. Worst-case scenario is, he might die.“
My heart skipped a beat at that Last sentence.
“Are you saying that you have to administer the antidote when he’s awake?”
“Yes, but we’ve tried to wake him. He’s unresponsive,” Melany said grimly.
“And from what we can tell, although the poison hasn’t spread completely, he’ll stay unconscious indefinitely. We can’t cure him in this case.”
My heart sank to the pit of my stomach.
“But if we don’t administer the antidote, he’ll die slowly.”
Brian let out a long sigh. “So now, we have to either inject the antidote and pray for a miracle, or let him suffer a slow death. This is the life of an we’re talking about. We wouldn’t dare to bet on it.”
I smiled bitterly.
No wonder Janiya said that the poison would make its victim die a horribly painful death. It turned out that even with the antidote and the best doctors at our disposal, it was difficult to save the life of the poisoned.
“This can’t be! You have the antidote for crying out loud!” Carlos couldn’t believe what he had heard. Out of sheer rage, his face turned into that of a wolf and he roared, “Brian, you’re useless!”
He grabbed Brian by the collar and cursed, “We’ve given you the formula of the antidote and the poison, yet you’re telling me that you can’t use it? What a waste of time! It must be because you’re a terrible doctor. I’m taking Caleb back to the Thorn Edge Pack, where there are far better doctors.”
“What the hell are you doing, Carlos?”
Seeing that Brian’s face turned red from Carlos’ grip around his collar, Melany shouted at Carlos angrily.
“Let go of him!”
She reached out to stop him, but Carlos shoved her away harshly, causing her to fall to the floor.
Debra’s POV:
“Stop, Carlos!”
Brian’s anger surged as he witnessed Melany’s distress. He turned into his wolf form and roared, “You better not Lay a finger on Melany!”
“You’re terrible at medical skills, and your incompetence delayed the rescue. You have absolutely no authority to shout at me!” Carlos retorted, his expression contorted with fury.
