A faint smile tugged at the corners of Caleb’s lips, but I could tell that it was genuine.
“Let’s go,” he said gruffly. He turned around, walked ahead, and got in the car.
After fastening my seat belt, I asked coldly, “Where are you hiding him?”
But Caleb ignored my question.
He acted a little strange. In the past, Caleb always liked to talk to me in the car, but this time around, he kept silent the entire drive. Perhaps he was in a bad mood, or maybe his mind was elsewhere.
No matter what I said or asked, he didn’t respond to me. He just Looked at the road ahead of him.
Despite the absent-minded look on his face, he was driving at full speed.
ALL of a sudden, I realized that the route was very familiar.
Wait a second… Wasn’t this the way to the kindergarten?
“Caleb, did you hide Colin in the freaking kindergarten?” I tried to mask my panic with incredulousness.
Caleb finally responded, “Do you think I‘d do such a thing?”
“Then why are you taking me to the kindergarten? Didn’t you say that you wanted me to see Colin?”
Once again, Caleb fell silent. He pursed his Lips and glanced at me with complicated emotions.
The suspense was getting to be unbearable. He kept looking at me Like I was a prisoner.
Finally, I couldn’t help but blurt, “Whatever you have to say, just spit it out!”
But he still refused to respond. It wasn’t until we suddenly screeched to a halt near the kindergarten that he turned his head to look at me seriously. “Debra, are you hiding something from me?”
My heart skipped a beat as soon as our eyes met.
Did he know something?
“Of course not,” I replied coolly, pretending to be calm.
As long as he had no conclusive evidence against me, I refused to reveal anything.
After giving me a meaningful Look, Caleb opened the door and got out of the car.
The kids were in the middle of an outdoor activity. They were in the lawn, playing games. I was afraid that Elena would be here, so I got out of the car in a hurry and followed Caleb, looking around vigilantly.
